Leaders from the Missouri Community College Association (MCCA) traveled to Washington, D.C., for the 2025 Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) National Legislative Summit (NLS), where they met with federal lawmakers to discuss the role of community colleges in workforce training and student success.

Representing MCCA were President and CEO Brian Millner and Director of Professional Development and Member Engagement Cliff Judy. They participated in discussions focused on federal funding, job training programs and policies affecting students and institutions across the state.

“It is a great opportunity to speak directly with those who make decisions affecting higher education," said Millner. “Community colleges are key to preparing students for careers, and we want to make sure federal policies reflect the needs of both students and employers.”

“These conversations help Missouri’s community colleges stay connected to federal policymakers and keep our priorities front and center,” said Judy. “By meeting face-to-face with lawmakers, we reinforce the impact of community colleges on Missouri’s workforce and economy.”

Throughout the summit, they attended meetings with the following policymakers and community college leaders:

  • Senator Eric Schmitt and Missouri community college leaders
  • Congressman Mark Alford and Metropolitan Community College (MCC) and State Fair Community College (SFCC) leaders
  • Congressman Wesley Bell and St. Louis Community College (STLCC) leaders
  • Congressman Emanuel Cleaver and MCC leaders
  • Congressman Bob Onder and SFCC leaders
  • Congressman Jason Smith and Missouri community college leaders
  • Congresswoman Ann Wagner and STLCC leaders
  • Senator Josh Hawley’s Deputy Legislative Director
